Island Computers, based in Savannah Georgia, donated 2 full working systems to VMS Software Inc. in hopes that OpenVMS will continue to "live long and prosper".
Along with these servers, Island provided fiberchannel connectivity. VMS Software Inc. is now the developer of the HP OpenVMS Operating system. They are currently working on the latest iteration of OpenVMS for Integrity, E8.4-1H1.

Island Computers donates servers to companies and individuals on a per-case basis, where it can be seen as a promotion of good will and benefit to the OpenVMS Community.

OpenVMS E8.4-1H1 provides all of the features contained in HP OpenVMS v8.4 plus support for HP Integrity i4 servers based on the Intel Itanium 9500 series processors.

Hewlett-Packard has changed its direction on OpenVMS. Instead of pushing its users off the system, it has licensed OpenVMS to a new company that plans to develop ports to the latest Itanium chips and is promising eventual support for x86 processors.
