The latest version of the legendary file transfer utility, C-Kermit, is in beta test. Testing on more OpenVMS versions is requested.
So far C-Kermit 9.0 beta has only been tested on OpenVMS Alpha 6.1 and 8.3.
The major goals of this release are
(a) compatibility with newer OS releases and hardware;
(b) support for large files and 64-bit integers on as many platforms as possible;
(c) stability; and
(d) a great many VMS-specific improvements.
Other new features are listed on the web site. Perhaps the biggest change of all is a new license. Beginning in Beta.01 C-Kermit has the Open Source Revised 3-Clause BSD License, as will subsequent Beta tests and the final C-Kermit 9.0 and later releases.
