    MDS600 for Integrity c-class Blades
Posted by Ian on Thursday July 09 2009 @ 06:02AM EDT
The HP StorageWorks 600 Modular Disk System(MDS600) is supported on OpenVMS 8.3-1H1 on HP BladeSystems. The MDS600 is used along with the HP StorageWorks 3Gb BL SAS switch and the P700m Smart Array Controller for a zoned SAS storage solution. This MDS600 SAS solution provides good performance of 3Gb/s and is ideal for customers who previously had to resort to complex and expensive SANs for such performance.

The MDS enclosure allows you to easily provision drives that appear as local storage for each blade server by a process known as ‘zoning’. Up to six MDS600 storage devices can be supported off a single BladeSystem enclosure for up to 420 TB of capacity.

This MDS 600 SAS solution with zoning has therefore the following advantages:

  • Good performance at low latency without the complexity of a SAN infrastructure
  • Simplicity with faster deployments
  • Easier management of the data on the storage device
  • Tiered storage options where non-mission critical or tier II data can be stored
