MSA1000 V4.24 Firmware OpenVMS, Tru64 UNIX and homogeneous support
Posted by Kenneth Farmer on Tuesday December 02 2003 @ 04:44PM EST
With the introduction of the new MSA1000 firmware (v4.24) the OpenVMS and Tru64 UNIX will not have to flash the firmware to install an alternative firmware as has been the case with today's firmware versions (v2.38 for Intel; v3.36 for Alpha). The new firmware should be in the shipping product shortly.

IMPORTANT: The fact that all the various operating systems can now be supported under one controller firmware versions does NOT mean that all OSs can have concurrent access to an MSA1000. If you will refer to the two MSA1000 QuickSpecs (Alpha- and Intel- versions) you will find that Tru64 UNIX and OpenVMS, along with 64-bit Windows and 64-bit Linux, can only operate in a homogenous configurations. Simply put if a server with any of these four operating systems is attached to an MSA1000 ONLY servers with that same operating system can share access. This rule remains unchanged from the previous firmware support.

32-bit versions of Windows, Linux and NetWare can have concurrent access. Work is being done to broaden this coverage.
